You know that time when you come home from work or errands after a long day and you’re stressed and exhausted, but still have a list a mile long to finish? We’ve all been there! At first, I had a hard time finding the right activity, or lack of activity, that could help me relax after a rough day. I tried adult coloring books (yes, those are a thing and they’re awesome!), video games, movies, hanging out with friends, or a nice drive with the hubby. While I still love all of these things, especially the last two, I needed that little extra something. Finally, I realized, duh, spa day! My husband kept trying to talk me into going to a spa, and who doesn’t love a spa, but they can get SO expensive and I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money. So, I decided to make my own spa day at home. This way I can use all my favorite products, in my own space and not break the bank while doing it!
I like to start my spa day by first gathering all the essentials. You don’t want to get all covered in bubbles, only to realize you forgot to bring snacks or entertainment. I usually bring my phone (for music purposes), a book (always a good, relaxing choice), and I even bring my Nintendo 3D XL with me (ya, I know, electronics + water = danger) what can I say, I like to live dangerously. I wouldn’t recommend it though unless you are POSITIVE you don’t have butter fingers.
My favorite spa day products:
My favorite is: Without a doubt, Lush bath bombs are my favorite! Shooting for the stars would have to be up there on my list (you know, way up, where the kids can’t get it). It’s fun, the color draws you in, and it’s very soothing. For those of you who have never heard of Lush, or who have heard about them and wanted to try their products, I really suggest you do. Their products are all handmade and very unique.
I love them because: There are so many different kinds and they have a huge variety of scents to choose from. Almost every Lush bath bomb has some fun quirk about it, like a rose that appears when it melts, or little stars and sparkles that make your tub look like a galaxy.
You can find it: I know of a lot of Lush stores throughout malls in the US, but if you don’t have one near you they have a website you can visit and shop to your heart’s content! You can find the link here. You can also find some of them on Amazon.
Salt rock bubbles
My favorite is: Handmade salt rock bubbles, I actually tried these for the first time after I got them as a gift when I lived on the west coast.
I love it because: It was more than just a pretty bottle with beautifully layered colors in it. I hadn’t tried it immediately after I’d received it but after a while of it staring at me every time I was in the bathroom, I decided to change that and I wasn’t let down! It made some great bubbles, smelled great, and helped my skin to feel more renewed. After that, I finished the bottle off pretty fast!
You can find it: At Toby’s Candle and Soap shop in Old Town, San Diego, CA (unfortunately I haven’t found a website for them yet! I’ll be sure to update if they do).
My favorites are: Seventh Heaven face masks
I love them because: They have lots to choose from for all different skin types. My skin can be very dry and it does a great job of keeping it moisturized. They also are awesome if you have acne prone skin! I’ve included them in another one of our posts, which you can find out more about here.
You can find it: I found mine at Walmart, but you can also find them on Amazon
I use: Gorilla grip spa bath pillow (2 panel)
I love it because: Well, to begin with, nobody likes trying to get comfortable on the cold hard surface of a tub while you’re trying to enjoy a nice warm bubble bath. But this pillow caught my attention because it was very reasonably priced, it’s very comfortable, easy to clean, and about 10 baths in it’s still as good as new.
You can find it: Amazon
I use: Bath dreams bamboo Bathtub Caddy
I love it because: I can literally put anything on top of it like snacks, candles, a book, or my phone. If you’re like me and love to stay in the bath for forever, this is perfect.
You can find it: Amazon (I think there’s a pattern here…)
Once I’ve got all the necessities I draw myself a bath, throw in a bomb, put on a face mask and let all my worries melt away (at least for a little while!). Everybody has a different way to de-stress, but I hope you can find the time to relax, try out some of my favorite products, and enjoy a good old-fashioned spa day.
