This month for our makeup review we chose L’Oreal! We’re always looking for great products that are easy to find as well as affordable and we’ve found ourselves wondering if drugstore/department store makeup is really worth it. There are so many products to choose from, where do you start, will it be worth it? We decided that once a month we would find out for ourselves which products we like the best!
Liz’s skin type – oily, acne prone
Infallible Advanced Never Fail, Natural Ivory
Preferences – Matte, oil-free, full-coverage
Rate – 5/10
Pros – It matched my skin tone well and was easy to layer, it also did a pretty good job of staying in place all day.
Cons – By the end of the day my face looked shiny and felt a little sticky in some places. My skin can get pretty oily if I am not using the right foundation so, it might work better for someone with less oily skin. It also caused some breakouts, ugh!
Review – It wasn’t the worst foundation I’ve ever tried, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again just because it didn’t agree with my skin. I did like that it matched my skin tone pretty well, I have very pale skin so it can be hard to find the right shade. It wasn’t very fast drying so I did have to wait a little bit before I applied powder. I wouldn’t exactly call it a never fail foundation. If your skin isn’t very oily this might work better for you.
Infallible Pro-matte, Porcelain
Preferences – Matte, easy to blend and apply, long lasting, not ashy or cakey
Rate – 9/10
Pros – Did a great job of matching my skin tone, blended well, the perfect amount of extra coverage
Cons – Just a bit too dark, might have made my skin a touch oily
Review – I was very pleased with this finishing powder! It blended well, it looked great on my foundation and it was very close to my skin tone. It might have made my skin a little oily (that also could’ve been the foundation), it didn’t stay matte all day.
Voluminous Lash Paradise, Blackest Black
Preferences – Not clumpy, ultra-black shade
Rate – 5/10
Pros – Great length, rich color
Cons – Super clumpy, not a lot of volume
Review – I was really hoping this mascara would be as awesome as some of the other L’Oreal products I’ve tried but I wasn’t a huge fan! It was very clumpy and didn’t add a lot of volume. It was also pretty difficult to remove, I probably won’t wear waterproof mascara again unless I absolutely need to. I did like the bottle it came in, it was pretty!
Color Riche Lipstick, Coral
Preferences – Long lasting, moisturizing
Rate – 3/10
Pros – pretty colors, soft texture
Cons – not very moisturizing, doesn’t last very long
Review – I wasn’t a huge fan of this lipstick, I was very excited about using it because the color was so beautiful. I didn’t like that it made my lips super dry and it didn’t stay on very well. The color wasn’t as rich as I would have liked it to be. If you like metallic, glossy looking lipstick this might be a better fit for you.
Carmen’s skin type – dry, acne and dark marks
24 HR, Classic Tan 310
Preference– full coverage, oil free
Pros – It was a good match to my skin tone, it dried fast, and it really lasts all day. I liked that I didn’t have to keep putting more on, it was also resistant to water and it felt light on my skin.
Cons– I have to shake the bottle for a bit so it can mix well or the foundation will come out super watery, it didn’t look as natural as I would’ve liked and it didn’t feel very smooth.
Review – Personally, I liked this foundation. It really gave me great coverage and it felt nice on my skin. I would definitely recommend this foundation to someone who is just starting to wear makeup but I would also say that although it feels good on the skin, the main problem I had was that the makeup looked a little pasty.
True Match, Warm w7
Preference– matte, natural look, easy to blend
Pros – It matched my skin tone well
Cons – It was not easy to apply, it did not cover my dark spots with just the powder alone, I had to put a lot of the powder on my face and keep applying every hour or 2
Review – The only good thing about this powder is that it is a good match for my skin tone, but this is a powder that I really would not recommend to anyone. It is too much of a pain to put on and it just keeps fading a lot and fast.
Voluminous Butterfly, 871
Preference– no clumps, no smug, waterproof
Pros– Dried fast, gave me more volume, easy to apply, Waterproof, and easy to remove
Cons– Just a little clumpy
Review– This mascara was definitely a win for me! It only had one small problem, but it was easily fixable. It really was waterproof and when I accidentally touched my eyes to scratch it, it didn’t come off my hand or smear under my eyes and make me look like a raccoon. I would use this every day and recommend it to others.
Colour Riche Lipstick, Mauved
Preference– long-lasting, natural look
Pros – It looked nice, easy to apply
Cons – Came off too easily, it has a bad taste
Review – This lipstick is easy to apply, and it has some great colors but when I would apply it, it would give me a bad taste in my mouth and I wasn’t even licking my lips. Although it was very easy to remove.
